So Long Treadmill

So in case you didn't know my Aunt decided we should train for a race together.  I stupidly agreed.  Then we tried to convince other people to jump on board.  We picked the Gristmill Grinder a 1/2 marathon trail run (dumbest choice of my life).  Aunt Lynn is possibly still on the fence because of track season, but I'm secretly hoping we bail on the trail run and pick up another in May (I hope she doesn't read my blog, haha).  However just when I thought I could slack off and weasel my way out of a 1/2 my roomie, I should really kick her out, convinces me to do the Country Music 1/2 in Nashville.  Since then some other really great people have gotten on board.  I have mixed emotions about running, I love it but my knee hates it (Thanks parents for the missing parts). With the temperatures being so cold I have been afraid to run outside, who wants to run 3 or 4 miles in 20 degree weather?  Not me... or so I thought.

Lately our runs on the treadmill have been HORRIBLE.  Becca and I were beginning to panic and we were thinking there is no way we are going to make a 13 mile race when 2 miles is a struggle.  So this morning I woke up and felt like I should run outside.  So I look at the hourly forecast and tried to pick the warmest hour of the day.  Turns out there was NO warm hour so at 1:30 I set out in 27 degree weather to tackle the hills!  This is the letter I wrote along the way, in my head of course.....

Dearest Treadmill (3rd row, 2nd from the left, where the fan hits perfectly),
I am sad to inform you that I will no longer be seeing you at 8pm three days a week.  (Ok truthfully I am not sad to tell you this but felt it was more polite to phrase it that way.)  Four miles outside in freezing temperatures is more pleasant than one mile on you.  The views, the better breathing, the not counting songs, the ever changing scenery, terrain, and dogs are much more exciting than pretending Obama (during the State of the Union address) is rapping 99 problems by Jay-Z.
