I'm giving up RECYCLING.

APRIL FOOLS!!!!

Ha! Like I'd give up recycling.  That has sadly been the only April Fools Day joke that I have pulled this year., I think I'm slipping.   I hope your first day of April was warm and sunny like mine was, I can't wait till it is like this everyday.
I am reading a book by Donald Miller, Searching for God Knows What. Miller spoke at our all staff conference but until this book I had never read anything he has written.  I had heard rave reviews about Blue Like Jazz but never bothered to pick up a copy.  While I was facebook stalking one day :)  I noticed a friend of mine said that she loved, Searching for God Knows What, so I borrowed her copy.  I must tell you that I now know why she loves it.  Miller writes so personally and it is such an easy read, a book you can get lost in on a warm afternoon.
Miller said that he took a class that was about reading the bible as a narrative, like any other book one might read.  This struck me as odd.  I immediately thought who the heck would want to read the bible like a "regular" book, you'd miss everything important.  Then as I kept reading he suggested it was the best thing he'd ever done.  This was still very odd to me but it had my attention for some reason.  I think it was because I love to read books, yet sometimes find the bible especially the  Old Testament BORING!!!!   So I decided that I was going to begin to read without an "agenda".  I wasn't reading to get anything out of it I wasn't busy looking for the secret to life, or busy trying to figure out what God was trying to tell me about my own life. SURPRISE SURPRISE I love it.  The people in scripture have come alive to me, I'm not busy thinking about all my junk but instead I'm seeing this amazing story play out in front of me.  Abraham, Isaac, Joseph all have actual faces in my head they all look a certain way, act and talk in particular ways.  I know that like any book I've loved if they came out with a movie tomorrow I'd hate it because it wouldn't portray them correctly, or at least not how I have seen them.  That is a sign of a great book.
I recommend that you try it as well.  Read the bible like a great novel, looking for character plots, sub plots, climaxes, foreshadowing whatever you want, just hang you and all your junk on a hook while you read it.  I can't wait as I get further and further along these people who have grown somewhat tiresome to me are reinvented and come alive in a whole new way.
How have you seen God today?    I saw him this morning, in leadership and we watched the most amazing sunrise together as a team :)

Earth Saving Tip of the Day:  Take a shorter shower.  For every 2 minutes you shave off your shower time you save up to 10 gallons of water.
