God is immutable.

All that God is, He has always been.  All that He has been and is, He will ever be.  He cannot change because He is perfect and will remain perfect.

"In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.  They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment.  Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.  But you remain the same, and your years will never end.  The children of your servants will live in your presence; their descendants will be established before you."   Psalm 102:25-28

On another note:  I got to see first hand yesterday about Jehovan-Shalom.  At bible study Steffanie and I were talking about peace (I said oooo that is my name of the day) then after a fabulous evening at bible study something unexpected popped up.  God truly is the God of peace.  I had peace about it.  As our study said last week:  Praise the Lord all my soul!  Tell your soul to praise Him today because who He is today is who He was and will always be!  Thank you Lord for being consistent throughout my inconsistency.  

God is Jehovah-Shalom

This name means "the God of peace." God could never give to others a peace that exceeds understanding if He Himself were not perfect, unfailing peace.  Judges 6:16-24

vs.24 So Gideon built an alter to the Lord there and called it The Lord is Peace. To this day it stands in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

God is Jehovah-jireh

This name means "the God who provides." Just as He provided yesterday, He will provide tomorrow.  He grants deliverance from sin, the oil of joy for the ashes of sorrow, and eternal citizenship in His Kingdom.

When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an alter there and arranged the wood on it.  He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the alter, on top of the wood.  Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.  But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, "Abraham! Abraham!"   "Here I am," he replied.  "Do not lay a hand on the boy," he said.  "Do not do anything to him.  Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son."  Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns.  He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.  So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, "On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided."

Day 6: God is Love

God's love is so great that He gave His only Son to bring us into fellowship with Him.  God's love not only encompasses the world, but embraces each of us personally and intimately.

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.  Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.  Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.  This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.  This is love:  not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.   1 John 4:7-10

Two posts in one

With all the prom festivities yesterday I forgot to post our attribute or name of God.  So I'll do two in one day.

Day 4:  God is omnipotent  God has power.  Since God is also infinite, whatever He has must be without limit; therefore, God has limitless power. 

"Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.  You show love to thousands but bring the punishment for the fathers' sins into the laps of their children after them.  O great and powerful God, whose name is the Lord Almighty.  Then the word of the Lord cam to Jeremiah: I am the Lord, the God of all mankind.  Is anything too hard for me?

Jeremiah 32:17,18,26,27

Day 5: God is good.  The goodness of God is what disposes Him to be kind, benevolent, and full of good will toward all creation.

Do good to your servant according to your word, O Lord.  Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I believe in your commands.  Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word.  You are good, and what you do is good; teach me your decrees.  Though the arrogant have smeared me with lies, I keep your precepts with all my heart.  Their hearts are callous and unfeeling, but I delight in your law.  It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees.  The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold.

God is infinite!

How goes the online dating?  I say that because through this prayer I'm getting reacquainted with who God is, looking at what  I love about him and what he says about himself.  Sort of like an online dating add :)   Today we find that God is infinite.  

Day 3:  God is infinite.  We cannot speak of measure, amount, size, or weight and at the same time be speaking of God, for He is beyond measurement.  God has no beginning, no end, and no limits. 

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! Romans 11:33

This one is extremely difficult for me. I'm short sighted, have low expectations and love putting limits on what God wants to do for me.  Join with me today in addressing God as infinite in all of our prayers and that he would expand how we view him.  

Day 2: God is Jehovah-M'Kaddesh

This name means "the God who sanctifies." A God separate from all that is evil requires that the people who follow Him be cleansed from all evil.

"Consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am the Lord your God. Keep my decrees and follow them. I am the Lord, who makes you holy.       Leviticus 20:7-8

Who are you? Lord? Father? Friend?

Have you ever been in a situation where you're with a friend and you run into someone you know but have forgotten their name?  It makes it very hard to introduce them to each other and usually becomes awkward.  You are giving them some nickname, "hey you" and the friend is like come on I'm standing here, am I invisible?  Then as you walk away you say oh sorry I couldn't remember their name.  Names define us, it is essentially who we are without saying anything about who we actually are, weird huh?  Nothing to me is more frustrating then forgetting a kid's name.  The point is we can't introduce our friends to someone whose name we can't remember. That introduction is not made, the relationship not built, and the next time they see each other there will be no talking.  

This links to my walk with Christ.  So often in my prayer life I find myself calling God the same things over and over again, sometimes not even meaning it just needing a way to start a prayer.  Lame huh?  I've very much limited him to Father, God, and Lord.  Which is great right?  What about all of his other names?  Who can I introduce him to my friends if I've forgotten his names? Forget them if I don't know someone's name can I really consider myself in a relationship with that person?  I would never say this is my boyfriend, Bob? Chuck? no no Jake? oh I don't know.  So join me each day checking on my blog for a new name to pray through for the day with me.  This will be great! I'm super excited. 

Day 1:  God is Jehovah.  The name of independent being- "I AM WHO I AM"- only belongs to Jehovah God.  As we consider His greatness, we fall down in fear and awe of this One who possesses all authority. 

Moses said to God, "Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' Then what shall I tell them?"

God said to Moses, "I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ' I AM has sent me to you.'"

God also said to Moses, "Say to the Israelites, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers- the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob- has sent me to you.' This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.
