There is something about a summer thunderstorm that I just love. I'm currently sitting as close as I can to my deck with the sliding glass door open and the sound of rolling thunder in the background. The gentle breeze slipping through the screen into my dining room and brilliant lightening striking close enough that it makes it look like the middle of the day. The trees bending with the forceful direction of the wind and whispering as they rustle. It is such a sweet refreshing treat in the middle of a 90 degree week.
I can remember when we would go down to the Greenbrier River the rain drops hitting the tin roof, and the wonderful melody they would create. It was so very soothing. Another time my dad and I went outside on our porch to watch heat lightening. I was so afraid it was actually going to hit us but my dad assured me it was fine, I sat there for awhile wanting to walk away but unable to move.
There is just something so captivating with the look of lightening, powerful bolts that illuminate and sparkle like diamonds. They hold our attention, they make us uncomfortable, they refresh a hot and humid day. Yes summer thunderstorms in all their greatness are upon us. Today we get the cool breeze to wrap around us, the thunder to get our attention, the rain to renew, and the light to see where we are going.
